Texas tree spotlight:  Mexican plum tree

The Mexican plum is a small, ornamental spring-flowering tree that is native to Texas.  It should be used mainly as a landscape compliment plant if possible but thrives in Fort Worth weather. We handle many of these trees in the Keller area.
Among the ornamental trees that are most popular with homeowners' in the Southlake and Keller areas are the flowering crab apples, dogwoods, hawthorns and redbuds. But there are others rapidly climbing in popularity. One is the Bradford Pear; like other trees bred specifically for today's tastes and small suburban lots, it grows fairly rapidly to a nice level of around 40 feet. In spring, it bears masses of white blossoms, and in summer its glossy green foliage and upright branches make it a handsome lawn ornament, in fall it turns a brilliant red. It is pest resistant, and it also withstands the polluted air, poor soil and crowded growing space that are common to many city locations.
